(BALDIE): THE IONIA DAILY STANDARD, MICHIGAN, MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 1900, page 4, col. 3: "A GOOD WOMAN GONE. Mrs. Mary B. Freeman Passed From Earth on Sunday Afternoon. Mrs. Mary B. Freeman, for more than half a century an esteemed resident of Ionia county, and for 29 years a valued member of society in the community, and occupant of the home where she died on West Main street, passed from earth, aged 72 years. Deceased was a daughter of David Baldie, who settled in Ionia in 1844, coming hence from New York state. She was born in Herkimer, on August 26, 1828, and was the oldest of a family of six children, and is also the first of the six to die. She was the widow of Franklin S. Freeman, who died about nine years ago. To this union two children were born, Emma, who died some seventeen years ago, and David B., the well-known dry goods merchant of Saginaw, who has spent very much of the past month at the mother's bedside. At once upon marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Freeman moved onto a farm in Ronald township, where they performed pioneer work for twenty years, coming thence to Ionia, where she has resided continuously since, a valued member of the community and a constant and consistent member of the First Baptist society. The members of the immediate family surviving are the five brothers and sisters, vis: Mrs. L. Goodall, Miss Maggie Baldie and John W. Baldie, all of Ionia, and Henry and Frederick Baldie, now living on the Pacific coast. The funeral will be attended from the late home, at 2 o'clock p.m. on Tuesday, the service being conducted by Rev. D. L. Martin of the First Baptist church. Interment in Oak Hill."
