The Carson City Gazette, Friday, September 11, 1896
Allen Freeman, a Union veteran, died suddenly Saturday afternoon.  He had long 
been a sufferer from consumption.  His funeral was held at the M.E. church, 
Rev. Mr. Hawley conducting the services and was buried in East Plains cemetery 
by O. H. Read Post G.A.R. with military honors.
