Nov. 21, 1940 HENRY C. FRIEDLY Henry C. Friedly, 74, prominent Belding business man for a half century, who suffered a heart attack over one week ago, died at Blodgett hospital Sunday afternoon. Mr. Friedly was born in Ohio, December 8, 1865, and came to Lake Odessa when about two years of age. He attended the Saranac schools later and came to Belding in 1890. He early associated himself with the business life of Belding and soon after coming here he and his brother, Ben Friedly, now deceased joined William Wilson in the firm of Wilson and Friedly Furniture dealers. On July 12, 1895, he and Miss Minnie Gould daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Gould, were united in marriage at Silverwood, Michigan, the couple coming to Belding where they have been closely associated with the business and social life of the city for the past 45 years. Mr. Friedly was a member of Belding lodge 355, F. & A.M., and was affiliated with the Grand Rapids Consistory. At the time of his death, he was president of the Belding Oil Company, having been its president since the date of its organization on November 15, 1920. He was active in community affairs had served as alderman of Belding and as supervisor of Otisco township. Surviving the widow, Mrs. Minnie Friedly, and two brothers, Milton and Cornelius Friedly of Boyne City. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, at the Fitzjohn funeral home, under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity. Rev. William Blanding officiated as minister and burial was in the mausoleum at River Ridge cemetery.
