Brief services were conducted at the home Friday afternoon by Rev. Chas. Nease, pastor of the Lowell Methodist church, and at Greenville Saturday by Rev. Kendrick, pastor of the Methodist church at that place. Interment at Coral. Mariette Smith was born in Oneida county, N.Y., May 27, 1840. She married William Fries of Wayne county, N. Y., Feb. 1, 1859. To them were born seven children, four daughters and three sons, of whom there survive with the bereaved husband and father: Mrs. H. E. Wright, Mr. H. M. Dolph and Robert S. Fries, of Greenville, Mrs. Jenie E. Lewis, of Trufant, Mich., and Ruben R. of Keene. They came to Michigan in 1862, settling at Mt. Clemens, removing to Maple Valley, Montcalm county, in 1868, where in 1872 she was converted and with her husband united with the M. E. church, of which she has continued a member until death. In 1888 they moved to Keene which has since been their home.
