Fry, 85, of Ionia formerly of Holt, passed away April 25, 2010, at Green Acres in Ionia. He was born April 3, 1925 in Mason, the son of Rudolph and Azel (Baker) Fry. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Essex. Doug married Pat Ruthig Aug. 14, 1946, she preceded him in death in 2001. He farmed for most of his life and he also owned and operated Fry & Fry Redi-Mix. Doug is survived by his son, Terry (June) Fry of Ionia; daughters, Deborah (Maynard) Baer of Montana and Kathryn (Paul) Holland of Montana; sister-in-law, Leora Fry of Mason; grandchildren, Wendy Hobbs of Lowell, Amber Fry of Saranac, Carly (Mike) Heiland of Montana, Angie Sprank of Ionia, Mykenzie Holland of Montana, Dan (Jessica) Drown of Ionia and Alexandria Fry of Montana; and eight great-grandchildren and step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Forrest and Clarence; and one sister, Lillian Krebbs. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment Saranac Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Doug’s name to Ionia Area Hospice or Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
