Rose M. Funkey, 101, of Ionia died Jan. 2, 1997 at Heartland Health Care 
Center in Ionia.  She was born March 10, 1895 in Westphalia, the daughter of 
John and Eva Koster.   She was a long-time resident of Ionia, where she 
married Casper Funkey in 1923.  She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul’s 
Catholic Church in Ionia, the Rosary Society, and Our Lady of Fatima Circle.

She is survived by one son, Donald J. (Joyce) Funkey of Ionia; one daughter, 
Rosemary E. (Gary) Cooper of Wauconda, Ill.; two grandsons; two 
granddaughters; two great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and one great-
great-granddaughter.   She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985, and 
two sisters, Olivia Trierweiler of Portland and Laura Gemuend of Ionia.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter and Paul’s Catholic 
Church in Ionia.  Father Charles Hall will be presiding, and interment will be 
in Mount Olivet Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 
from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, with a Rosary service at 8 p.m. at the Rich 
St. Chapel of Cook Funeral Home in Ionia.  Memorial contributions may be made 
to the Educational Trust Fund of SS. Peter and Paul’s School.
