The Ionia Daily Sentinel, Monday, May 24, 1965
Word was received Sunday morning of the death of Elizabeth Funkey suddenly at 
the home of her sister, Mrs. James Parks in Ferndale with whom she had resided 
the past few years.  Funeral service will be at St. James Catholic church in 
Ferndale at 9:30 Wednesday morning.  Burial will be at Mt. Olivet cemetery at 
3 p.m. Wednesday.  Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Bertha Healy of South 
Braintree, Massachusetts, a brother, ,Casper Funkey of Ionia, and several 
nieces and nephews.

Subsequent Publication – Tuesday, May 25, 1965

Elizabeth M. Funkey, 80, of 484 West Troy, Ferndale, died unexpectedly at 9:30 
Sunday morning at William Beaumont hospital.  She was born in Ionia, November 
19, 1884.  Miss Funkey retired in 1955 after 40 years as sales clerk at J. L. 
Hudson.  She was a member of St. James Catholic church at Ferndale. 

Surviving are a brother, Casper Funkey of Ionia; two half sisters, Mrs. Eva M. 
Parks, with whom she resided in Ferndale, also Mrs. Bertha A. Healy of Boston, 
Massachusetts; 10 nieces and nephews.  

Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at Spaulding-Curtin funeral home, 500 
West 9-Mile Road, Ferndale.  Prayer will be said there at 9 a.m. Wednesday 
followed by funeral mass at 9:30 in St. James Catholic church.  Burial will be 
at Mt. Olivet cemetery in Ionia with graveside service at 3 p.m.
