Furman, 80, of Ionia, died unexpectedly at home Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Cecil was born on Oct. 11, 1932, in Ionia, the son of Douglas and Clara (Pierson) Furman. He was a past member of the Elks and Moose Lodge in Ionia. He always kept a nice lawn, was very proud of his education, loved NASCAR, spending time with his family and his grandchildren. Cecil was a master electrician and boiler mechanic at American Bumper where he worked hard as a maintenance supervisor, retiring in 1993. Cecil was well known as a helpful friend, a mentor to many young men working in the maintenance department and always had time to help anyone. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Cecil married Emma (Elvert) on Oct. 15, 1983, at Shiloh Community Church. Cecil is loved and survived by his wife, Emma, and their children, Audrey (Dan) Watson of Nashville, Brenda (Roger) Wilson of Ionia, Mike (Nancy) Elvert of Columbia, Mo., Ronald Elvert of Fenwick and Suzanne (Paul) Arnsby of Ionia; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Mary Swain of Sheridan, Alice (Francis) Fox of Ionia, Gordon (Gaylene) Furman of Muir and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Robert Elvert and Edward Elvert; two brothers and sister-in-laws, Ralph (Anita) Furman, Albert (Elsie) Furman; brother-in-law William Swain; sister-in-law Deloris Edmonds; and his in-laws Burdette and Susie Edmonds. Funeral services and committal prayers will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 12, at Shiloh Community Church with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Private interment will be in Easton Township Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or Shiloh Community Church.
