During a part of his illness Mrs. Gaffney was also critically ill, but recovered somewhat and was able to assist in caring for her husband. For 14 years Mr. Gaffney was caretaker of the county farm, beginning his term of service while the infirmary was in Ronald and was there through the trying period of finding temporary housing quarters when the home was burned, and while the new home was being constructed. By remodeling and making additions to the various small houses on the farm where the home now stands, he cared for the inmates until the new home was completed and remained with for five years afterwards, moving from there to Saranac. He was a member of the Saranac I.O.O.F. lodge, and the members will participate in the funeral services, which will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock Eastern time from the Congregational church. Burial will be made in the Saranac cemetery. Besides the widow, he is survived by a son, Donald C. of Grand Rapids, and a daughter, Mrs. A. A. Welch, of Portland, Ore., who has been at the parental home a number of weeks; also by a sister who resides at Shelby.
