Gage occurred at his home in Cook’s Corners Wednesday night at about 12:30 o’clock attended by his wife and daughter, Mrs. McCotter, and kind neighbors. The deceased was 68 years old and came to Otisco nearly fifty years ago in company with Luther Cook from Oakland county. He worked in the lumber woods and at his trade of wagon making in the early days. Was elected supervisor of Otisco in 1877 and held the office several years, was also secretary of the Excelsior Agricultural society of Otisco and did much to make that organization a success. He has been a justice of the peace many terms and has always been counted as one of the substantial, honest citizens of the township. No one could say aught against Jasper S. Gage. He enlisted in 1863 and was a member of Co. C. 1st Mich. Engineers and Mechanics, serving during the war. He was a staunch republican and often represented his party in conventions. About two weeks ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis while sitting on the steps of W. H. Hanks’ store, falling into the arms of his old friend, G.A. Phillips. He was taken home and recovered only to receive a second attack Tuesday evening which paralyzed his limbs and soon rendered him unconscious. He leaves a wife and four daughters. The funeral service will be held at the Cook’s Corners church under direction of Dan S. Root Post, G.A.R., of which he was an honored member, Saturday at 11:00 a.m. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/g/gage2960nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
