The funeral procession with the three hearses, each followed by numerous carriages of mourning friends, and all escorted by the Knights of Columbus, Elks, and Shopmen—nearly 200 men on foot, made an imposing spectacle. The High School boys were also in line, as special escort for Gallagher, and the girls of his class also attended the service in a body. A vary large gathering was in attendance, several hundred being unable to gain admittance to the church and remaining on the lawn throughout the service. Inside the church the seats on either side of center aisle were occupied by the mourners and the three societies. The seats on side aisles were crowded with other friends. The altars were decorated with ferns, but the flowers were removed from caskets, which stood in the center aisle. The choir was very large and the solemn high mass was celebrate by Father McCarthy, assisted by Fathers McCabe of Hubbardston, Zindler of Otisco, Auer of Portland and Witliff of Pewamo. The sermon by Father McCarthy was short, but full of words of sympathy and condolence for the mourning friends. The comfort, he said, to the friends of the departed should be in the assurance that these young men were prepared for the transition which came so suddenly. Our own lives may be cut off as quickly, and the lesson is to so live always as we should wish to live in our last days. No more eloquent lesson for a good life could be given than that which is taught by these silent dead. The floral testimonials were numerous and beautiful, but none were to be seen at the service. The bearers for James Vizard were: Frank Carten, Fred Longe, Luke McGowan, John Corcoran, Miles Loftus and Frank Frost. Bearers for Ned Gallagher were: Dr. McCann, Jos. Kelleher, Thos. Humphrey, Frank Gresczowak. Bearers for Fred Fitzgerald were: Jos. Poole, Ed Price, Frank Biehler, Chas. Corcoran.
