Jan. 11, 2013 Catherine (Sargent) Gallagher, 91, of Ionia, passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013. She was born on June 23, 1921 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Charles and Nellie (Conner) Sargent. Catherine worked at Kreskes in Grand Rapids while in high school, worked on the election board there, and lived there until she married Paul R. Gallagher I. She and her husband Paul started Kay Distributing Co. and were in business over 50 years with sons Charles, Paul II and David. Catherine belonged to the Society of Decorative Painters, the National Rifle Association, the Ionia Moose Lodge, was a Republican delegate, and worked at Water’s Shoe Store in Ionia, where her husband was the manager. She also worked in the gift shop at the hospital in Ionia, and also worked with the Cub Scouts. Catherine enjoyed her family and friends, art painting, music, and crocheting. Thanks to Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Cristen Bewell for the many visits. Preceding her in death were her husband, Paul Gallagher I; and daughter-in-law, Merry Gallagher. Surviving are her sons, Charles Gallagher, Paul R. (Lynn) Gallagher II, and David (Sally) Gallagher; grandchildren, Camie, Chris, Cindy, John, Barb, Chad, Sarah, Paul III, Katie, Abby, Patrick, John, Jason, Matt and Joseph; 30 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Monday, Jan 14, 2012 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ionia, with Rev. Thomas Boufford presiding. Rite of Committal will take place in the spring at Easton Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church.
