Bernice Galloway, 93, of Ionia passed away Saturday, January 16, at the Ionia 
County Memorial Hospital in Ionia.  Bernice was born in Lake Odessa on July 4 
1905, the daughter of James and Dora (McGraw) Scheidt.  

She grew up in Lake Odessa and graduated from Hogh School.  She was married in 
1926 in Lake Odessa to Gayle (Pat) Galloway.  The marriage lasted 54 wonderful 
years until her husband passed away in 1980.  For 55 years Bernice resided on 
the family farm on South State Road.  Her home was her castle and organization 
was her motto.  Bernice was a past member of the South Ionia Friendship Club.  
Her love of life and family will continue to an inspiration to all of us.

Bernice is survived by two sons, Garold (Nancy) Galloway of Hendersonville, 
Tenn., and Gordon (Mary Ann) Galloway of Morley; eight grandchildren, Gary 
Alecia, Cheryl, Russ, Scott, Jeanne, Staci and Clark; four great-
grandchildren, Anthony, Jordon, Kailee, and Christina.  She was preceded in 
death by her parents, husband, and brother and sisters, Gretchen, Glendon, 
Bernard, and Doris.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 20, at 1 p.m. from the Cook 
Funeral Home, Rich Street Chapel, Ionia with Rev. Kenneth Harger of Shiloh 
Community Church officiating.  Interment will be in Balcom Cemetery.  
Visitation will be Tuesday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. from the Rich 
Street Chapel, Cook Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the 
Ionia Area Hospice.  Envelopes are available at the Cook Funeral Home.
