He passed away April 18, 2012 in Ionia. He has no immediate survivors as they preceded him in death. Parents, brother Wayne, two half brothers Glenn Jr. and Maxley, and half sister Leona Utter. The family lived on four different farms, the longest time in Matherton. They moved to Ionia when Charles was eleven years old. He graduated from Ionia High School in 1955. During his junior and senior years, he worked at WION on the student work related program. He attended Pine Lake Trade School and was the editor of the school paper. He was a reporter and photographer for the Ionia Sentinel- Standard from 1956 to 1960. He moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1961. He moved to Sacramento, California 1963 and was the assistant manager of the Fox Theater when President Kennedy was assassinated. In 1967 he moved to Las Angeles. In 1971 Charles moved back to Ionia and was a foreman at Universal Products. On September 18, 1975 he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior! He completed four years of Bible Classes through the Ambassador Bible College in Las Angeles. He did not want a personal congregation where he had to please man rather than God. The Gospel of Jesus Christ and the coming kingdom of God was all that he cared about! He performed services for anyone, anywhere they needed them. When Charles became unable to care for himself, Jim and Kate Emelander became his power of Attorney and benefactor. You could not ask for more trustworthy friends than they are. They are the only friends I have ever had in my whole lifetime that I trust. I will leave people with this thought. Learn from the past; live in the present; look to the future! Charles donated his body including his brain to MSU Radiology Department through Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. Online condolences may be made at www.lakefuneralhomes.com.
