Portland Observer, 10 May 1899

Lydia, widow of the late Rev. Smith P. Gamage, died in Lansing on Saturday last,
aged 83 years.  Deceased formerly resided in Portland and for several years
occupied the old Beers homestead on Kent street, removing to Lansing after her
husband’s death, where she has since made her home.

The remains were brought to Portland on the noon train Monday and funeral
services held in the Congregational church Monday afternoon, which were quite
largely attended.  Rev. D.E. Millard, an old friend of the Gamage family,
officiated.

[Transcriber's Note:  There is a notation on the obituary card that she was
buried with the Earl family in the Portland Cemetery.]
