Gammons, 81, of Ionia, formerly of Big Rapids, died September 20 at the Ionia County Memorial Hospital. He was born February 2, 1908 in Arkansas, the son of George W. and Hattie (McManus) Gammons. He completed high school and two years of college at Ferris Institute in Big Rapids. He obtained his doctorate degree from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He had taken post-work from the National College of Chicago, Lincoln College of Indianapolis, Indians and Logan College in St. Louis, Mo. He was an associate doctor of the Spears Chiropractic Hospital in Denver, Colo., a member of the state, national and international association. He married Mildred A. Raad on July 21, 1935 in Big Rapids. He practiced in Big Rapids from 1938-1973. He retired and moved to Ionia and opened a small office in his home. He was a chiropractor for 50 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Big Rapids. He belonged to the Chamber of Commerce there, where he was president, and a member of the Rotary Club. He was a member of the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Ionia. Surviving are his wife, Mildred; one daughter Mrs. Ronald (Gayle) Stevenson of Ionia; one son Lawrence of Douglas and Florida; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother Wayne of Grand Rapids; one sister, Mrs. Niels (Ruby) Johansen of Big Rapids. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Ionia, with the Revs. Larry Frey and Kenneth Sharp officiating. Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Myers Memorial Chapel in Ionia. The family will be at the church Saturday starting at noon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church or the Gideons International Bibles.
