June 13, 1935 Gleason Gamsby of Saranac, died at the Blodgett hospital, Grand Rapids, Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock following three operations during the past week for cancer. Mr. Gamsby was born in 1889 in California and came to Saranac in 1903 with his parents. He attended the Saranac school and later he and his father operated a garage and oil station in Saranac until about a month ago when they sold out. He married Dorothy Locher 23 years ago. Mr. Gamsby was a lover of music and every musical circle in Saranac found him an active member. He was a member of the Ionia American Legion and Saranac band, at one time it's leader. He and Mrs. Gamsby have played for dances for a number of years. He will also be remembered for his singing. Besides musical circles he was an active member of the Oddfellows and Rebekah lodges, the F.& A.M., a member and past patron of the Eastern Star, and was president of the village board for four years. Surviving are his wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gamsby, and two sisters, Mrs. Edythe Wilkinson and Mrs. Gertrude Henry, of Saranac. Funeral services will be conducted from the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with interment at the Saranac Cemetery.
