Mrs. Gardner was born in St. Lawrence Co., N.Y. Jan. 8, 1834, and was consequently 67 years of age. She came to Michigan with her parents, Joshua Heath and wife, in 1846, and they settled on the town line between Vergennes and Keene, that being also the county line dividing Kent and Ionia counties. In 1855 she was married to Mr. Gardner and they settled in Otisco township where they have resided continuously. No children blessed their union but it is a fact known to all their friends that no more devoted couple could be found anywhere. Blessed with bright, happy dispositions, their home was always one of sunshine and they were the centre of a large circle of friends and acquaintances. For upwards of three years Mrs. Gardner has been an invalid but it did not in the least sour her pleasant disposition. She bore her sufferings patiently and maintained her cheery ways to the end. The husband now left bereaved and lonely found his chief happiness in anticipating her every desire. The funeral services were held from the Smyrna church Sunday at 10 a.m., Rev. D.E. Hills officiating. There was a large attendance many members of the Washington Club being present, of which organization they were honored members. The interment was at Smyrna cemetery. There are six surviving brothers and sisters: Mrs. Zadok Keith, Carson City, Mrs. Diana Sherman of Vickeryville, Mrs. E.F. Doty of Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs. Wm. Cole of Lyons, O.H. Heath, of Ithaca and A.H. Heath of Detroit. Owing to physical infirmities none but the two last named were able to be present at the funeral.
