He was born July 14, 1910, in Bement, Ill., the son of John and Carrie Jay Gardner. He attended schools in Bement and was married to Letha Parker Dec. 14, 1928. The Gardners moved to the Lake Odessa area after their marriage.He was employed as a mechanic at the Lass automobile dealership in Lake Odessa for 28 years and at Pennock Hospital, Hastings, for six years, and he also owned and operated his own radio and television repair shop in Lake Odessa. Surviving are his wife,Letha; two sons Delmer Gardner Jr. of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Richard Gardner of Nashville; a daughter, Kaye Friend of Woodland ; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs,Clifford (Thelma) Shellman of Lake Odessa; a daughter-in-law, Dona Gardner; and a sister-in-law, Oma Gardner of Decatur, Ill. He was preceded in death by a son, Jack; a brother, Lewis; and two sisters,Ida Rainey and Marie Prinz. There will be no funeral services. Graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Lakeside Cemetery with the Rev. Keith Laidler officiating. The family will be at Koops Funeral Chapel,Lake Odessa, from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials have been established for Ionia Area Hospice and Central United Methodist Church of Lake Odessa in care of the funeral home.
