Hasting's Reminder - Saturday July 20, 2024

Richard Jay Gardner, affectionately known to him many friends as "Dick" or "RJ", 
age 83 of Nashville,MI passed away on July 7, 2024 at this home in Nashville,MI.

Dick was born in Lake Odessa,MI, on July 18, 1940, a son of the late Letha and 
Delmer Gardner. He was raised in Lake Odessa and attended local schools 
graduating from Lakewood High School. After completing his education Dick joined 
the United Navy  serving four years before being honorably discharged.

After return from the Navy, Dick began working at Oldsmobile in Lansing where he 
worked faithfully until retiring in 1990.

In 1981, Dick married to Shirley (Edgett) Gardner and the couple made their home 
together in Nashville, where they owned and operated Shirley's Churchwagon until 
her passing in 2012.

I his spare time, Dick enjoyed raising horses.As a horseman at heart Dick 
travelled all over the western united States trail riding with his many 
companions.He was an active member of the Michigan Roper's Association where he 
excelled at both "Headin & Healin" roping styles.

For the past 30 years, Dick looked forward to "Thirst Thursday" on the porch 
from 1 to 4 p.m. each week sippin' whiskey with his beloved friends.

There was a celebration of life for Dick at his home on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
