She was born in Conessus, New York, on March 16, 1849, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John White, and in the year 1855, at the time when steamers plied up and down the Grand river as far as Lyons; she came with her parents to live there. She was one of the few civil war widows left in this vicinity. Her husband was William Gardner, civil war veteran. She leaves two sons, Harry of Lyons and Perry of Eight Points lake; four daughters, Mrs. Charles White of New York city, Mrs. Cora Hendrickson of Muir, Mrs. Helen Walker of Lansing and Mrs. Edith Hendrickson of Muir the mother having lived with the latter for the past two years; six grandchildren, Reed Town of Lansing, who lived with her for a number of years during his boyhood, Ruth Hendrickson, of Muir, Miss Elaine Gardner of Lyons, and Robert, William and John Walker of Lansing; one brother, Adelbert White of Fresno, Calif; and two great-grandchildren, Keith and Nancy Buck of Muir.
