Ami “Pete” Garland, age 81, of Ionia, passed away Feb. 28, 2009 in Ionia.  He 
was born April 2, 1927 in Ionia Twp., the son of Arthur and Virginian 
(VanSlyke) Garland.  Pete married Lillian Aldrich Sept. 4, 1948 in Berlin 
Center Church.  He worked for GM in skilled trades for over 30 years and owned 
P & L Enterprise in Mecosta.  He was a member of Mecosta VFW.

Pete is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lillian Garland of Ionia; 
children, Diana Garland of Remus, Buck Garland of Ionia, Terry (Diane) Garland 
of Port Austin, Mich., Teresa (Hank) Holm of Ionia, Linda (Mike) Dilley of 
Gowen, Bob (Robin) Garland of Remus and Kay (David Grey) Garland-Grey of Grass 
Lake; brother, Lester (Joan) Garland of Belding; sisters, Shirley Wertz of Six 
Lakes, Donna Link of Edmore and Caroline Hanson of Louisiana; 14 
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and several step grandchildren and great-
grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in 
Ionia with Rev. Den Slatterly officiating.  Anyone wishing may make memorial 
contributions in Pete’s name to American Cancer Society, American Heart 
Association or American Diabetes.
