Virginia M. Garland, 73 of South Stage Road, Ionia, died Wednesday at Ionia
County Memorial Hospital.  She was born September 6, 1907 in Ionia, the daughter
of Ami and Edith Angel VanSlyke.  She lived in Ionia all her life.

In 1926, she married Arthur Garland.  He proceeded her in death in 1951.  She
worked at Newell Manufacturing in Lowell, and Ivan Clark Manufacturing and
Chrysler Corporation in Lyons.  She retired in 1969.  She was a member of the
Chrysler Senior Citizens Club.

Survivors include two sons, Ami (Pete) of rural Ionia and Lester of Belding;
three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Shirley) Wirtz of Stanton, Donna Link of Edmore and
Mrs. Richard (Carolyn) Hansen of Louisiana; one sister, Mrs. Roy (Mary) Colley
of Ionia; 24 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be Saturday from 2 p.m. from the Leddick Funeral home with
the Rev. Ronald Dow officiating.  Burial will be in North Plains Cemetery.  The
family will receive friends and relatives Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  A
memorial has been established for the Diabetes Association.
