Garlinger, 71, of 730 Sixth Avenue, passed away early Saturday morning at Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids after a short illness. He had been hospitalized there for about ten days. A native and lifelong resident of Lake Odessa, he was the son of Benjamin and Millie Garlinger. Mr. Garlinger owned and operated the Garlinger Food Market for 52 years and was the oldest merchant in business on Main street. Mr. Garlinger served as president of the village for three years, trustee of the village council for twenty years, member of the Congregational Church, F&AM lodge No. 395, charter member of the Lake Odessa Lions Club, president of the Lake Odessa Fair Assoc., member of the Ionia Country club and was very active in all civic affairs. Surviving are his wife, the former Beatrice Henty, whom he married December 29, 1929; a brother Ermal E. Garlinger, a nephew Fred and two nieces, Miss Laurel Garlinger and Mrs. Arthur (Marcia) Raffler, all of Lake Odessa. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 1:30 at the Pickens Funeral Chapel with burial in Lakeside cemetery. Rev. Paul Bennehoff officiated.
