"Mike" Garlock, 74, of Lake Odessa passed away on Friday, May 12,1995 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing following an extended illness of A.L.S.(Lou Gehrigs Disease). He was born on June 2, 1920 in Carson City, the son of Ira and Ruth (Powell) Garlock. He graduated from Carson City High School and from Western Michigan University. He was married to Elaine Hill on August 29, 1948 in Carson City. He farmed and also did photography and printing. They moved to the Lake Odessa area in 1956 where he taught in the Lake Odessa School system for 26 years, retiring in 1982. After his retirement he devoted considerable time in the Lake Odessa Depot, Lake Odessa Library, Central United Methodist Church and other charitable organizations. He and his wife were chosen Grand Marshall of the 1991 Lake Odessa Fair Parade. He received the Janie Rodriquez Award in 1994. He was on the Lake Odessa Fair Board for 14 years and served as Vice-President. Mr.Garlock was a member of the Lake Odessa Central United Methodist Church, sang in the Church Choir for several years. He was also a member of the Lake Odessa area Historical Society, Michigan Retired School Teachers Association and past president of the Lake Odessa Community Library Board. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Harlan. Surviving are his wife, Elaine; three sons and two daughters, Bruce(Janet) Garlock of Big Rapids, Gordon Garlock at home, Donald (Lorraine McMillen)Garlock of Lake Odessa, Kay (Tony) Barcroft of Hastings, Karen (Michael)Morse of Richland; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one sister,Doris (John) Crockett of Kalamazoo; two sisters-in-law, Marian Garlock of Reed City and Harlene (William) Gedris of Grand Rapids; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held on Monday at the Central United Methodist Church in Lake Odessa with Reverend Emmett Kadwell officiating. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central United Medhodist Church or the Lake Odessa Community Library Building Fund. Arrangements were made by Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa.
