Ionia Boy, Aged 4, Dies of Diphtheria, Family Quarantined

Misfortune seems to have descended upon the home of Mr. and Mrs. William
Garrett, 650 Union street, their son, William Irwin, aged four having been taken
by death as a result of illness from diphtheria and now the disease has spread
in the family the mother, grandmother and the oldest daughter, Jennie May, being
critically ill of the same malady.

Funeral services for little William were to have been held Thursday afternoon in
open air services, the death having been thought to be streptococcus infection.
 When cultures examined at the state laboratory proved the disease to have been
diphtheria the funeral was privately held Wednesday afternoon.
