Mrs. M. Garrity died last evening at 7:15 o'clock, at the home on Railroad street. Deceased was much of an invalid for the twenty years last past, having endured much suffering from asthma, and severely so during the last ten years. The shock which led to her death, however, is attributed to a fall which she received in December last, when alighting from a carriage, since which time she has been bed-ridden, with the exception of perhaps a week. Mrs. Garrity was aged 65 years at time of demise. She was born in Ireland, and crossed the Atlantic when but fifteen years of age, when she landed in Canada. She afterwards lived in Detroit, and twenty-five years ago came to Ionia with her husband and children, and has resided in Ionia continuously since, much respected for her mature motherly qualities, by a wide circle of friends. Ten children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Garrity; five of these are now living; Mrs. A.J. Hayes and Mrs. Arundel Waugh, whose homes are in Detroit, and Mrs. Edward F. Gallagher, Miss Bertha, and John A., who are yet residents of this city. funeral services on Monday morning at 9:00 o'clock, from the Church of SS. Peter & Paul, where she was long years a devout worshipper. Additional Comments: Funeral: Monday, 29 May, 1899 Mt. Olivet cemetery OP-145 Monday, May 29, 1899 Mass Was Said for Two Souls. The funeral for Mrs. M. Garrity was very largely attended this morning, at the Church of SS. Peter & Paul. There was an exceptionally large representation of the older members of the parish by whom deceased was always favorably known and highly regarded. The five surviving children were all present. Rev. Fr. Fierle's discourse was a warm and fitting tribute to the personal worth of deceased as a Christian woman. A long like of mourners in carriages followed the remains to the grave. The bearers were Messrs. James Curry, B. Kennedy, T. McGowan, M. Vizard, M. Bolan, Wm. Welton. The flowers were many and very handsome. 1880 Census, Ionia: Garrity, Michael 47 Bridget 46 Annie 22 Katie 21 Mary 20 Bertha 18 Nellie 16 Sarah 15 Susan 13 Johney 11 File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/g/garrity33664nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 3.0 Kb
