Louie was born on February 15, 1925 in Keene Township the son of Theodore and Genevieve Feyan Gasper. He graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1942. He was a long time member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Miriam where he was active in the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus and helped on the committees of the annual fall bazaar, the church cemetery, the building of a new church hall and in earlier years with St. Joseph School. Louie had also served as the Keene Township Clerk and was a past member of the Ionia County Road Commission. As a lifelong farmer he was a member the Farm Bureau, was a Dekalb Seed Dealer and served on the Ionia County Soil Conservation Board. Louie had a strong faith and a great love of family and friends. He will be greatly missed. He was married on August 23, 1947 at St. Mary’s Church to Mary Maxine Detmers and she survives along with their children; Kenneth and Jane Gasper of Belding, Mary Kay Gasper of Grand Rapids and Gordon and Linda Gasper of Middleville. Louie is also survived by his grandchildren; Nikki and Wade Bernreuter, Aaron and Andrea Gasper, Derek and Jennifer Gasper, Maddie Jo Gasper, Mandy Mae Gasper, Jamie and Dennis Peterson and Mike Pott, eight great- grandchildren, and a sister and brother in law; Joanne and Ray Case of Rockford. He was preceded by his parents, two sisters, Vivian Savage, Mary Louise Doyle and brother Lyle James in infancy. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Miriam with Father Fred Brucker presiding. Rite of Committal will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 with a rosary prayed at 8:30 PM at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to Spectrum Hospice, the Alzheimer’s Association of West Michigan or the St. Mary Cemetery Fund.
