Maxine was born on May 15, 1924 in Keene Township, the daughter of Sam and Ella Helsel Detmers. She graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1941 and later graduated from Davenport College. She was a long-time member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society and helped on many of the various church committees and the annual fall festival. Maxine also served for many years as the Keene Township Treasurer and was active in the Farm Bureau of Michigan. She worked hard with her family on their large dairy farm. Maxine had a strong faith and a great love of family and friends. She will be greatly missed. Maxine was married on Aug. 23, 1947 at St. Mary Catholic Church to Lewis T. Gasper. Lewis sadly preceded Maxine on Aug. 21, 2009. Also preceding were her parents and one brother Paul. She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Jane) Gasper of Belding, Mary Kay Gasper of Grand Rapids and Gordon (Linda) Gasper of Middleville; grandchildren, Nikki (Wade) Bernreuter, Aaron (Andrea) Gasper, Dr. Derek (Jennifer) Gasper, Maddie Jo Gasper, Mandy Mae Gasper, Jamie (Dennis) Peterson and Mike Pott, eight great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Elsie Detmers of Lowell and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ray and Joanne Case of Rockford and King and Marie Doyle of Lowell. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Miriam with Father Fred Brucker presiding. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with the rosary prayed at 8:30 p.m.at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Mary Food Pantry or the St. Mary Cemetery Fund.
