Ionia Sentinel, Aug 1990

Funeral services were held Aug. 20 at Stebbins and Simpson Funeral Home, 
Sheridan, for Onilee (Coulson) Gates, 80, of 492 Belding Road, Orleans, who 
died Aug. 16, 1990, at Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids.  The Rev. Dr. Robert 
Braman officiated with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Ionia.

Mrs. Gates was born Oct. 29, 1909 in Barryton, the daughter of Rupert and Ethel 
Hill Warner.  A longtime Sheridan resident she was a retired teacher who taught 
in Keifer, Greenville and Sheridan elementary schools.  She was a member of 
Ionia-Montcalm Retired Teachers Association, Sheridan Congregational Church and 
the Restless Ones Trailer Club.

Her first husband, Harry Coulson, died in 1976.  She is survived by her 
husband, Russell Gates, whom she married July 13, 1985.   Also surviving are 
three daughters and a son-in-law, Beverly Beach, Orleans, Louise and Jack 
MacNaughton, Sheridan, Donalee Kapp, Monroe; two stepchildren and their 
spouses, Robert and Charlene Gates, Stanton, Sharon and Joel Jones, Sheridan; a 
sister, Donna Dinning, Ionia; a brother, Tom Warner, Sidney; 22 grandchildren, 
27 great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sheridan Congregational Church.
