Gates, died at eleven O'clock last night at the farm home where she so long lived, in Berlin township. She died at the ripe age of 84 years, and her death was but the timely gathering of a ripened sheaf. She came to Ionia county with her husband in June, 1844 - fifty-five long years ago, thus being among the very earliest of the pioneers of this section. The husband survived at the age of 87, and it is remarkable that this is the first death in the family, their four children being yet among the living. viz: Mrs. Lydia Disbrow of Marion, Osceola county; Rev. Zephania Gates of Holten, Muskegon county; Clinton Gates, a farmer of Berlin township; and county superintendent of poor, David Gates of same township. The funeral will be attended from the late home at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Interment in Saranac cemetery.
