Ionia Sentinel - Thursday, April 12, 1900

Harry P. Gates, one of the old time and well known residents, of Berlin 
township, died Monday morning. Mr. Gates was one of the first residents, of 
that town, having located and resided in Berlin since 1845. He has been almost 
helpless for the past few years, his mind having failed, and death occurred a 
the ripe old age of 87 years. He was the father of David A. Gates, with whom he 
has made his home. the funeral will be held Wednesday morning from the 
residence and interment in Saranac cemetery.
