Mrs Gates had been in very poor health for several years back from a complications of diseases, and had strong hopes that the dryer, milder southern climate would be quite favorable to her, they going south last October. To the contrary however, her health grew worse until finally she decided to return to Michigan and to the Sanitarium which had given her help before. She was barely able however to survive the long trip of over 1800 miles arriving at the sanitarium about 11 AM Friday and passing away about 3 PM. Mr.Gates brought the remains here Friday evening then to the old home where Mr. Whitlock's now live and where the funeral was held Saturday afternoon conducted by Elder Mourer, and burial was made in the family lot in Lakeside cemetery. Mrs.Gates whose maiden name was Ellen Krammer was born at Gatesville, Ohio. She was married there to Mr.Edwin Gates about the time of the war and soon after came to Michigan settling first in Odessa, then to Orange and later in 1880 moving here to Lake Odessa. Mr.Gates passed away five years ago last January. Four children survive, Mrs. Geo. Mathew of Portland, Mrs. C.M. Colwell of San Jose, Calif., Mr. Edward Gates of Pueblo, Col., and Mr. Claud Gates. She also leaves a sister who is in vert poor health. Mrs.Gates was converted in early life and has ever since been a faithful member of the M.E.Church. She leaves many warm friends here who will mourn her departure. She was of a kind, sympathetic nature, and affectional wife and mother, a good neighbor, a true friend and a consistent Christian. CARD OF THANKS We would like to thank each one personally for the flowers, sympathy, kindness and assistance given us during the burial of our Mother, but as that is impossible kindly accept this as an expression or appreciation.
