Kittie Eavey Gauss died Sunday morning about 4:30.  She was born in Ronald 
township, August 4, 1879; attended the district schools near her home, 
graduated from the Palo schools in 1897 and attended the state normal at 
Ypsilanti.  She was a teacher in the public schools of Ionia county for seven 
years beginning at the central school and finishing with four years in the 
city schools of Ionia.  

She was married October 25, 1905 to Fred Gauss, who with their daughter, 
Katherine, survives her.  Shortly before Christmas, 1910, her illness began.  
She fought the dread disease with unflinching courage during all the weary 
weeks and months until the end came.  Always cheerful and helpful, if she had 
any doubt of her ability to win her fight no one knew it, or heard her 
complain.  

Mrs. Gauss united with the M. E. church of Palo about 10 years ago during the 
pastorate of Elder Golden and was always active in the religious and social 
life of the community.  Besides her husband and daughter she is survived by 
her father and mother and two brothers.  The funeral services were held at the 
house and M. E. church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Crumb officiating, assisted by 
Rev. Buffum of the Baptist church.  The church was crowded with friends and 
the floral offerings were unusually profuse and beautiful.  Burial was in the 
Palo cemetery.
