He was manager of Gavett and company with offices in the Kelsey building, producers’ agents for Anchor Post and Fence company, Bell Lumber company, Naph-Sol Refining company and Randall Fuel company. Funeral services will be attended at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon with Dr. Edward A. Thompson of Park Congregational church officiating and burial at Woodlawn cemetery with the Masonic ritual. From 1904 to 1910 Mr. Gavett was trainmaster for the Pere Marquette railroad and part of that time was a resident of Ionia, residing also in Saginaw and Traverse City during those years. He was born in Lansing the son of Col. and Mrs. William A. Gavett. He received his schooling in Grand Rapids and in 1889 took a job as stenographer in the office of General Agent Agnew of the Detroit, Grand Rapids and Western railroad. He was sent to Detroit in 1891 as chief clerk in both the passenger and freight departments, and in 1893 became district passenger agent eventually having charge of all of Ohio and Canada and part of Michigan.
