Aug. 9, 2013 Jane M. Gavitt, 86, of Belding passed away Thursday morning, Aug. 8, 2013 in Belding under the loving care of her family and Hospice. Jane was born on July 9, 1927 in Greenville, the daughter of Glen and Clara Adelaide (Bower) Pierce. She was a member of Shiloh Community Church, worked at the former Cozy Hugger Fabric Store in Belding and was a former Guardian of Jobs Daughters. In earlier years, Jane graduated from Carson City High School and wen to County Normal to become a teacher. She was an excellent seamstress and had sewn countless wedding dresses, clothes, curtains and anything else that needed to be mended. She was a friend to many and will be greatly missed. Jane married Al Gavitt Jr. on June 19, 1949 and he preceded her on Sept. 23, 2000. She was also preceded by her parents; brothers, Richard and James and son; Mike. Jane is loved and survived by her children, Terry (Chris) Gavitt of Belding, and Julie (Mike) Brady of Smyrna; grandchildren, Laurie (Shane), Brandie (Cory), Todd, Joe (Dione), Sam (Renae), Katie, Bryan, Zachary, Jennifer and Ryan; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her sisters, Dorothy Wilson of Perrinton and Lucille (Pat) Benedict of Greenville; and sisters-in-law, Joanne Pierce of Middleton and Marlene Pierce of Midland. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 2013 at Shiloh Community Church with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Committal prayers will be private in River Ridge Cemetery, Belding. The family will greet relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding.
