He was born in Ionia January 8, 1889, the son of Anthony and Anastasia Greskowiak Gazella, and was married May 31, 1919 to Bernice Wheaton. They lived in Lowell 15 years and the past 28 years in Grand Rapids. Mr. Gazella was employed at Michigan Reformatory 21 years as a storekeeper until his retirement in 1959. He was a veteran of World War I serving overseas as a first sergeant in company D, 126 Infantry, 32 Division. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and American Legion, and was a former member of BPOE 548 of Ionia. Surviving are his wife, Bernice; two sons, Robert and Richard Gazella both of Grand Rapids; five grandchildren; one brother, John Gazella of Detroit; three sisters, Mrs. Agnes Kuhtz, Mrs. Pauline Duell of Ionia, and Mrs. Mary Moore of Mt. Clemens. Funeral service will be conducted at Boynton funeral home Wednesday at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Woodard Lake cemetery. Subsequent Publication: Thursday, September 6, 1962 Funeral service for Anthony (Tony) Gazella, 73, of Grand Rapids was held Wednesday afternoon in Ionia with the Rev. Hubert Callahan officiating. He died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon at a Grand Rapids hospital. Bearers were Arthur Swanson, Richard Heufelder, Gerald Palmer, J. P. Christensen, William Kuhtz and Charles Gazella. Interment was at Woodard Lake cemetery. Attending from out of town were Mrs. Anthony Gazella, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gazella, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gazella, Sharon Carolyn, Gary, Gail and Kathy Gazella, James Kasney, Edward Zambroski, Mrs. Robert Myles and Mrs. Earl Brown of Grand Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wheaton, Mrs. Magdeline Gazella and Lee Sibley of Muskegon, and Arthur Swanson of Jackson.
