(Melzow) Gehrls, 71, of Saginaw, a former resident of Ionia, died Tuesday at a Saginaw convalescent home where she had been a patient about ten days. Mrs. Gehrls had been ill for some time. Born in Germany June 20, 1887, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Zander, Mrs. Gehrls came to this country as a small child and had lived in Ionia until about six years ago. She was married in 1908 to Charles Melzow and he died in 1939. In 1953 she was married to Frank Gehrls of Saginaw. Besides her husband, Frank, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Clyde Riddle of Holly and Mrs. Wayne Gulliver of Saginaw; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Holtz of Ionia and Miss Edith Zander of Chicago. Prayer service will be held at the Reitz funeral home in Saginaw, Thursday at 8 p.m. The body of Mrs. Gehrls will be brought to the St. John Lutheran church of Ionia Friday noon where it will lie in state until time for the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Theodore Timler, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery.
