June 12, 2013 Raymond L. "Ray" Geiger, 90, of Smyrna, died Saturday evening June 8, 2013 at home under the loving care of his family and Spectrum Hospice. Ray was born at the family home on Aug. 2, 1922, the son of Carl and Mary Agnes (Krupp)Geiger. During World War II, Ray proudly served his country in the United States Army. For more than 40 years he worked at Geiger Well Drilling. He was active in his community and taught 4-H for 25 years, was a life member of the Sheridan VFW Post and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was married on Feb. 14, 1946 to Bernice Schoenborn and she preceded him in 1998. Ray was also preceded by his parents; five brothers; John, Paul, Ernest, George and Karl; four sisters; Loretta, Valeria "Babe", Nora, Esther and his son; Brian in 1997. Ray is loved and survived by his children, Jacqueline and William Edmonds of Belding, Carolyn Geiger of Grosse Pointe, Raymond Geiger Jr. of Ionia, Robert and Joanne Geiger of Amelia, Ohio, Wayne and Tami Geiger of Belding, Gregory and Pam Geiger of Belding, Phyllis and Larry Lachniet of Belding; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, his companion and friend, Diana Jurden of Belding; sisters-in-law and many well- loved nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be Noon Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Miriam with Father Darrel Kempf presiding. Committal prayers will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 24 and 6-8 p.m. with a rosary prayed at 7:30 p.m. at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be give to Spectrum Hospice or the Veterans Memorial Wall in Belding. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Messages of condolence may be given at www.jffh.com.
