Gemuend, 40, Ionia civic leader, of 759 Ridgewood Drive, died Saturday evening at Ionia County Memorial Hospital. Active in many civic and education groups, Mrs. Gemuend was former president of Ionia Country Club Women’s Association, a member of Ionia Women’s Literary Club, past president of Ionia Jaycettes, and a member of Ionia Community Theatre. Mrs. Gemuend was also a member of Ionia City Housing Commission, Ex Libris Guild of Ionia County Memorial Hospital, a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church, SS. Peter and Paul Home-School Council; and St. Cecilia’s Rosary Circle and the Altar Rosary Society. An unsuccessful candidate of Ionia School Board in June of 1978, she served as secretary of Education Now, the citizens group organized in support of Ionia Public Schools, and a member of its steering committee. She is survived by her husband, Robert G. Gemuend, Ionia attorney and former Ionia County Commissioner; one son, Daniel, and one daughter, Tamara. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Costello of Long Lake, and aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive. Mrs. Gemuend was born November 20, 1938, in Dearborn. Following her graduation from Roosevelt High School in Dearborn in 1956, she attended Stephens College, in Columbia, Mo., for two years, before enrolling at Michigan State University where she received a bachelor of science in merchandising and retailing in 1960. After graduation from MSU, she was employed by J. L. Hudson Co. of Detroit as an assistant buyer. She married Robert G. Gemuend at Divine Child Catholic Church in Dearborn June 6, 1962. They moved to Ionia in 1963. Funeral mass will be held at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Scriptural rosary service will be held Monday at 8:30 pm. at Myers- Roetman Funeral Home, 148 E. Main St. A memorial has been established for the day room at Ionia County Memorial Hospital. The family will be at the funeral home tonight form 7 to 9. Subsequent Publication: The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Thursday, March 22, 1979 Funeral mass for Linda S. Gemuend, 40, who died Saturday evening, was held from SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church Tuesday at 11 a.m. Renate Conrad was organist and Elaine Caswell soloist and the SS. Peter and Paul Church choir sang. Bearers were: Jack Arnold of Ithaca, C. Anthony Balice, Dr. James C. Green, John O’Keeffe, William Fate, and James Frank, all of Ionia. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Following services, lunch was served by women of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church in the school cafeteria.
