Gemuend, 46, died at his residence, 759 Ridgewood, Sunday morning. Gemuend, who had practiced law in Ionia since 1963, also was a member of the Ionia Free Fair board of directors, and a director of Ionia County National Bank. He was born in Ionia April 29, 1937, the son of Harry Sr. and Laura C. Koster Gemuend. He attended schools in Ionia and graduated from Ionia High School in 1955. He attended Michigan State University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, and was a graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1959. Enrolling in the Detroit College of Law, he was graduated from law school in 1962 and admitted to practice law the following year. In 1963, he formed a partnership with his father Gamuend and Gemuend, in which the elder Gemuend was active until his death in 1979, after having practiced law for more than 60 years. The younger Gemuend continued the practice of law until this year when the practice was merged with the Ionia law firm of O'Conner McNamara and O'Keefe. He was counselor to the firm at the time of his death. Gemuend served as an assistant prosecuting attorney of Ionia County early in his legal career and also as Ionia City attorney. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Active in Community affairs, he was elected to the Ionia Free Fair board of directors in 1971. He was elected Ionia County Commissioner as a Republican in the fall of 1972 and took office Jan. 1, 1973, serving six years before deciding not to seek re-election. Representing the old fifth district, composed of Ionia City and environs. Gemuend was vice chairman of the county board in 1975 and its chairman in 1976. He was elected a member of the board of directors of Ionia County National Bank in June 1979 and was currently a member of the bank's executive board. Among other civic activities Gemuend was a member of Ionia Rotary Club and served as president of the Ionia County Memorial Hospital Foundation. He was also a member of the Ionia Country Club and of the Ionia Hospice. He was a former member of Ionia Jaycees. He was married to the former Linda Costello, who died in March 1979. He was married to the former Geraldine Christensen in January 1983, she survives him. He is also survived by a son Daniel, a daughter, Tamara, a stepdaughter, Kathy Christensen, and a stepson, Steven Christensen, all of Ionia. also surviving are his mother, Ms. Harry H. (Laura) Gemuend Sr., a brother, Harry H. Gemuend Jr. of Grosse Pointe and a sister, Mrs. Robert J. (Harriet) Klein of Ionia, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held from SS. Peter and Paul Church Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Henry Dondzila officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A parish rosary will be held at Roetman Funeral Home Tuesday at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials have been established for the Ionia County Unit of the American Cancer Society for SS.
