George, 77, of 210 Parmeter road, died early Tuesday morning at the Ionia Memorial hospital after being a patient three months. Born at Ada, Ohio, December 5, 1897, he was the son of Emanuel and Margaret Shaw George. As a child he moved with his family to Marion where he graduated from high school. He also attended Ferris Institute at Big Rapids. He worked as superintendent at the Stafford plant in Ionia, and then worked for a short time for the Store Equipment Company in Grand Rapids. He was later employed at the Ionia State hospital and the Michigan Reformatory at Ionia 28 years, where he retired as captain June 30, 1964. August 16, 1919, he was married in Ionia to Minnie Arnold and they celebrated their golden anniversary in 1969. Since his retirement they spent their winters in Florida and summers at their home on Parmeter road. He was a member of the First Baptist church, trustee of the church for several years and member of the Ionia Masonic lodge, Royal Arch Masons, Knights Templars, and Ionia Order of Eastern Star. He was a charter member of the Fishing and Hunting club and charter member of the Restless Ones Trailer club of Ionia. Besides his wife, Minnie, he leaves four sons, LaVern of Lewiston, Idaho, Irwin of Lake Odessa, Fred M. of Perry, and Lyle of Denver, Colo., ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Paula Giles and Mrs. Grace Lindsey of Pacific Palisades, Calif. Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the first Baptist church. Rev. Roy Pitts will officiate and interment will be at the Balcom cemetery. The body is at the Leddick funeral home where the family will meet friends and relatives Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials have been established for the First Baptist church and the Ionia Order of Eastern Star.
