Excerpts from Greenville Obituary

  BETTY GERKE

Died March 21, 2026-age 89 in Byron Center at the Oaks of Byron Center.
Born April 14, 1936 in Ionia,MI to Jacob & Eleanor Teichman.
Graduated from Ionia High School in 1954.
Earned her medical assistant degree at Elkhart University in Elkhart, Indiana.
Married William Charles Gerke in Ionia on May 18, 1957.
Worked for Dr. House & Dr. Stevens for many years.
Later became Secretary at Gibson Refrigerator in the accounting department, 
which became Electrolux in 1986.
In 1992 she received her associates degree in general studies at Montcalm 
Community College in Sidney,MI.
Betty & Bill raised two children, Scott & Amy.
Was actively involved at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, in the Alter Guild, 
choir, church council, working with youth & being part of a supper club for over 
40 years.
Was a member of the Greenville Golf Club, played in leagues & tournaments & 
social aspects of the club.
She enjoyed gardening especially loved roses & peonies. 
Betty cherished time with her six grandchildren & most recent great-grand 
children. Either in Michigan or Virginia at Christmas time.
Survived by her two children Scott(Laura) Gerke of Vienna, VA & Amy 
(Bryan Vaughn of Caledonia, MI, grandchildren, Justin (Vannesa) Gerke of 
Fairfax, VA, Jillian Gerke (Jack Trimble) of Fairfax, VA, Dorothea Gerke of 
Fairfax,VA,Daniel (Ashley) Gerke of Smyrna, Georgia, Emily (Ben) Lundquist of 
Jamestown,MI & Jacob (Kellie) Vaughn of Grandville, MI: great-grandchildren, 
Adeline, Willa Mae, Wilder, Rory & fifth due in August.
Funeral services for Betty will be held a 11 a.m. Monday,March 30 at Mt.Calvary 
Lutheran Church, Rev. Lepley as Officiant, & a luncheon to follow in the church 
fellowship center.
Graveside services at Forest Home Cemetery will follow the luncheon.
Visitation Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at Hurst Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church or Emmanuel 
Hospice.
