Gerke, 67, of E. Oak St., Greenville, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Spectrum Health Downtown Campus, Grand Rapids. He was born Oct. 4, 1933, in Fort Wayne, Ind., the son of Edgar A. and Margaret A. Bohn Gerke. He married Betty L. Teichmann on May 18, 1957, in Ionia. Mr. Gerke was a 1951 graduate of Belding High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from Northland Corp., in Greenville, as production manager after 46 years of service. He was an active member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, in Greenville, for 43 years, serving as an elder of the church most of that time. He also taught Sunday School for 20 years and was a member of the “Supper Club” from his church for 30 years. He was an official with the Michigan High School Athletic Association for 25 years, refereeing football and basketball, and was a timer for the Greenville High School track. He also enjoyed his golf and was a member of the Greenville Country Club. Mr. Gerke is survived by his wife, Betty, of Greenville; his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Laura Gerke, of Vienna, Va.; his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Brian Vaughn, of Shelby Township; his grandchildren, Emily and Jacob Vaughn and Justin, Jillian, Dorothea and Daniel Gerke; his brother, Gene and Judy Gerke, of Grand Rapids; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Prince, of Fla., and Alice Montz, of Willows, Calif.; and his brother-in-law, Philip and Barbara Teichmann, of Ionia. Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Greenville, with his pastor, Rev. Mark R. Pflug, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Greenville. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville. Memorial contributions may be given to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Leukemia Foundation or Rennucci House at Spectrum Health Downtown.
