One of the largest funerals ever held in the Evangelical church, southeast of Lake Odessa was that of Henry Gerlinger, last Sunday. Four ministers, including Pastors and presiding Elder assisted in the ceremonies at the home and church. "Mr. Gerlinger was a church official for many years and a man of true Christian character. During his long illness he was upheld and sustained by his abiding faith. He was a prominent and influential in his locality, and made friends wherever he went. About one year ago a brother Benjamin of the Gerlinger family passed away and with the loss of these brothers a large family mourns a broken ties. He leaves his wife, a son Waldo of Sunfield and a daughter Luta at home. OBITUARY Henry J. Gerlinger was born in Maple Grove, Barry County, Michigan, May 22, 1862 and passed away at his home in Woodland, Michigan April 23, 1925, aged sixty-two years, eleven months and one day. He was united in marriage with Carrie Eckardt of Woodland December 15, 1885, two children, one son and one daughter were born to them. When fifteen years of age he sought and found the Christ who came to save men from sin, united with the Evangelical church under the labors of the sainted Rev. F. Mueller proving himself an acceptable member in the fact that he was frequently chosen by his fellow classmates to fill various responsible positions in the church and at the time of his death was a member of the financial board but he is gone, his work is done, his place must be filled by another, who will it be? So God calls the workers to their reward and who will fill the break in the ranks by another so that the work may not cease. The deceased was a great sufferer especially during the last months of his earthly life. Everything that medical science knew and faithful loving hands could do was done to alleviate suffering and restore health but to no avail. For there is o man that hath power over the spirit of man to retain the spirit. he however bore his suffering with Christian fortitude and great was his joy as he meditated on his condition because of the peace that was his: often during his affliction his voice was lifted in song and praise to God for the many blessings bestowed upon him thru the merit of His Son. Once when visiting by his pastor in answer on the question. "Is Christ with you?" He replied, "Sure. He fills any heart with peace and Joy and I do not know what I would do without Him." There are left to mourn, his faithful companion, one son, Waldo of Sunfield, one daughter, Luta at home, two grand children, Lucille and Loren, his aged mother, four brothers, Dan of Nashville, Joe of Chicago, Sam of Lake Odessa, Will of Cadillac, three sisters, Mrs.E.E. Lucas of Lake Odessa, Mrs McLeod and Mrs L. Wachter of Woodland and a large circle of other relatives and friends. But they mourn not as those who have no hope. His father, one sister who died in infancy, and one brother Ben preceded him in death, the brother having passed away one year ago the 17th of this month. May the blessing of God attend and sustain. Funeral services were held at the Evangelical church on Sunday, at two PM and was one of the largest ever held in this community. The services were in charge of the pastor Rev. Hettler, assisted by Rev. H.I Voelker of Grand Rapids who preached from Rev. 7:14 Rev. H. Stressman also of Grand Rapids and a former pastor here, and Rev. A. Osthroth of Nashville. The music was by George Kart, Mr and Mrs. Leon Gilson, Mrs.M.Morgan and Mrs.M.Armstrong. Interment in Lake Side cemetery. Gently, Lord O gently lead us, Pilgrims in this vale of tears, Through the trials yet decreed us, Till our last great change appears, When temptations darts assails us, When in devious paths we stray, Let Thy goodness never fail us, Lead us in Thy perfect way. In the hours of pain and anguish In the hours of pain and anguish Suffer not our hearts to languish Suffer not our souls to fear And, when mortal life is ended, Bid us in Thine arms to rest Till, by angel hands attended We awake among the blest-Amen. CARD OF THANKS We the family of H.J. Gerlinger wish to thank the neighbnors and friends for the many acts of kindness extended during the sickness and death of our dear husband and father.
