Gibbs, Esq., aged nearly 71 years. Miss Clark was born in Stonington, Connecticut, in May 1810, and was married to Mr. John Gibbs in Granville, Mass., on the ? of Oct, 1831. They came to this State in 1854, and settled on the farm north west of this village, which they have since occupied. They have thus been identified with the interests of this community nearly thirty years, and have raised a family of seven children all of whom reside in this vicinity, and are widely known as among our best citizens. Mrs. Gibbs united with the Baptist church of which her husband was previously a member in Charleston, Ohio in 1841, and has since enjoyed the confidence and affection of those with whom she has been associated in church relations. She has been a woman of strong constitution and great activity and hopefulness; as a helpmeet indeed to her husband, with whom she has lived in true affection and whom she has efficiently aided in rearing their family and securing the competence with which they have been blessed. Her decease occurred somewhat unexpectedly from heart disease, which had insidiously and through a course of years gained the mastery of her constitution, and recently and rapidly developed its power. She was in full possession of her mental faculties to the last, and expressed an abiding trust in the Savior, while she affectionately urged the members of her family, all of whom excepting her son, Hon. A. G. Gibbs, were with her, to be prepared to meet her in the presence of Christ. Her funeral was attended this afternoon at the Baptist church by a large number of sympathizing friends, among whom were many old citizens. Sermon by her pastor, Rev. A. E. Mather, from Psalm 119 49th and 50th verses. Theme, “The Comfort of Hope.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/g/gibbs1409nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
