J. Riker, who resides on Maple street, were held from the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. J. H. Bancroft officiating. Burial was made in Portland cemetery. Mr. Gibbs was born April 27, 1831, in New York state. He came west to Ohio with his parents, when a small boy, and a few years later came to Portland to live with an uncle. He spent a greater part of his life on the old Gibbs homestead, situation a half mile west and about a mile south of Collins. Mr. Gibbs’ wife, whose maiden name was Rosina Klotz, died about four years ago, since that time he has been living with his children. He moved in with his daughter, Mrs. Riker, who lives over the R. & M. garage last December. His health has been failing for some time, and his death was not unexpected. The surviving children are Dan, Ray and Carl Gibbs, Mrs. L. J. Riker, all of this vicinity. He was a cousin of William and John M. Gibbs.
