Ill following a stroke a week ago Lewis W. Gibbs, 72, lifelong resident of 
Orange township, died at his home in Orange township Saturday afternoon at 4:15 
p.m.

Mr. Gibbs was born in the home where he died and he had lived there all his 
life.  He was a farmer.  He was born May 26, 1876 and in 1899 was married in 
Ionia to Frances Cook of Maple Rapids.

He has been a member of the Ionia Elks for many years but had dropped his 
membership recently.

Survivors include a son Lloyd, Orange township supervisor, and two daughters, 
Mrs. Mildred Briggs of Eagle and Mrs. Violet VerCies of Kalamazoo, two 
grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services are to be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the 
Banfield funeral chapel at Portland with burial at the Portland cemetery.
