Gibbs died at his farm residence near Greenville Feb. 2, 1908. Mr. Gibbs was one of the Rensaler county, N.Y., band of emigrants to Otisco in 1845 passing up the Erie canal, thence to Detroit by boat, thence to Otisco by ox team. As one of a family of six children Mr. Gibbs spent his childhood and youth upon the farm one and one-half miles west of Cook’s Corners. Feb. 20, 1861, he was married to Hattie Noble of Cook’s Corners. From their union three children are living, John E. of Gifford, Idaho, Mrs. Carrie E. Dempsey of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Grace M. Martin of New York, Miss Vivian Martin, the celebrated child actress, being a grandchild. Mrs. Gibbs died at Reed City where Mr. Gibbs was in business and in 1880 he was married to Miss Catherine Sarber of Indiana who survives him. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church and a staunch believer in its teachings. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. E.R. Weter of Belding and Mrs. M.J. Taylor of Greenville. He lacked a few weeks of being 70 years of age.
