Carson City mourns the passing away of Mrs. George R. Gibbs which occurred 
Saturday morning, December 30, 1911, aged 65 years.  Her maiden name was Mary 
A. Harmon and she was born in Summit county, Ohio, January 16, 1846.  She was 
married to George R. Gibbs at Oneida, Michigan July 5, 1866.  They resided at 
Maple corners and Portland, this state, until 1873, when they moved to Carson 
city where they have since resided.  Six children born to them, there of whom 
are now living, Frank H. Gibbs of Laporte, Indiana, Mabel L. Gibbs of this 
place and George R. Gibbs, Jr., of Detroit.

The passing of Mrs. Gibbs removes from our midst one more of the splendid 
women who had a great and widespread influence in molding the early church and 
social life of this community for righteousness and true Christian living.  
She had a large place in the hearts of all our people.  She was a worthy and 
loved companion and associate in deeds of charity and devotion of that 
splendid company of women of the early days of this place, among whom were 
Nellie Rockafellow, Allie Sweet, Monica Heath, and others long since gone from 
us and many who remain.

She was a member and devoted worker in various departments of the M. E. Church 
of which she was long a member.  She will be missed from her church and its 
activities, from the social circle in which she moved, and most of all from 
the home which she helped to make and maintain for forth-five long years.

The funeral services were held at the house Monday afternoon, January 1, 1912, 
Rev. H. V. Wade officiating.   Her remains were tenderly laid to rest in the 
Carson City cemetery.
